It was a solid opener for the 2017 Texas Duck Season. Lots of puddle ducks on the coast thus far and strangely enough, we managed several fully plummed Blue Wing Teal drakes.
Hurricane Nate may have headed East but it brought us plenty of elevated tides. Capt. Braden Proctor said he went to drop a tie out stake and almost flipped out of the boat because he didn't hit bottom.
Capt. Nathan Beabout reported an outstanding series of trips on soft plastics and slow movers taking solid Trout to 25" and plenty of numbers in some nice pre-frontal weather windows.
Capt. Kolten Braun lit them up with live shrimp letting me know at 8:00am that full limits were on board and they were looking for Trout and Black Drum.
It looks like Mother Nature may finally be with us and not against us, so here we go. Gadwall, Pintail, Redheads and a light mix of Teal and other species have been dominating the straps. Water levels have pulled back enough to give us some breathing and comfort room but remain higher than we'd like.

The Alexander's made it in on schedule with no problems from AZ for their visit dating back every year for over two decades. We welcomed some new and returning faces as well with eager youngsters and wives in for a first go round with duck hunting. All in all, I just had to step back and admire our Band of Brothers (our team of Guides) and the wonderful spirit of our visitors.
