Waterfowl & Late Breaking Deer Opportunities

Castaway Lodge Seadrift Report
By Capt. Kris Kelley

Late Breaking Deer Opportunities

Reports are overdue and the schedule is offering few windows to play catch-up. The big news and certainly a late breaking development is the acquisition of nearby whitetail deer hunting. A long time supporter and friend of the lodge has decided to open their working family ranch to deer hunting for our guests. Historically, the property has been family hunted and managed. The property has abundant game along miles of creek frontage. Better yet, the property is in proximity to the lodge offering very tight logistics for great combination hunts for waterfowl & deer.
We will be one of a very few lodges that can offer this here on the coast.

For the 2013/14 season which ends on 1/19/14 for deer, we are looking to harvest 5 Trophy Bucks; 16 Does; and, 8 Management Bucks. We look to build on this relationship moving forward and believe that this is a highly advanaged offering in terms of pricing and logistics. The hunts are being offered in 3 and 4 day hunt increments with alternating waterfowl hunts depending upon scouting reports. The pricing ranges from $2,250 to $3,500 including 1 Buck; 2 Does; and hogs.

We recognize that this is a late developement and have price it accordingly with no Trophy Fees on this low-fenced property. Please contact us for scheduling to take advantage of this unique coastal experience.

Waterfowl Hunting

More birds are showing up with each passing front. We are still contending with fairly mild weather and abnormal tides at this time. Opening weekend found us taking full limits with really fast shooting. We're looking for more of it to come and are excited about hunting with everyone this season.

Fishing Scene

On the fishing scene, Redfish continue the most productive for us and Capt. Chris has been lighting them up by airboat in the back marshes on this high tide. Black Drum and Redfish dominate the scene on bayboats with Trout popping off here there but nothing really consistent as of yet.
