Howdy, y’all! Get ready for another update from the Texas coast. Our recent rains have been a blessing—back lakes and inland ponds are filling up and sweetening, setting the stage for a busy fall. Teal numbers are building nicely for the 9/20/25 opener, though all that water can spread birds out, so dove hunters might face some challenges for the 9/14/25 opener. On the fishing side, trout remain solid on open bay reefs in San Antonio Bay, while Redfish have been a bit spotty; we’re still waiting on that big August push so we know the best is yet to come.
Dove, Teal Season & Alligator Season
Alligator opens on 09/10 and runs through the 30th (last minute weekday hunters reach out if interested). Teal season (opens 9/20/25): The rains have sweetened the flats, and early flights are stacking up nicely. Expect teal to scatter over newly flooded areas, but concentrations should grow as the month progresses seadriftbayfishing.com .
Dove opener (9/14/25): With so much water inland, doves may be more dispersed. We’re scouting to find the balance between agriculture and water; we’ll keep you updated on the best spots seadriftbayfishing.com .
Fishing
Trout: Strong catches continue on shell-studded bay reefs in San Antonio Bay. The bite has been steady with soft plastics and live bait seadriftbayfishing.com .
Redfish: A bit hit-or-miss lately. We anticipate the usual August surge of reds pushing into shallow back lakes and upper marshes soon—when it happens, get ready for explosive action!
Outlook: Overall, the recent rains should set up a fantastic late summer and fall. Water levels and salinity are stabilizing, and baitfish are plentiful.
