REVIEW"Just left the lodge riding back to
Dallas. I was invited by a buddy last minute and didn't have a clue of what to
expect. The days are long but the hunts are just awesome! From nature's beauty
to the great crew I'll be back for sure. Be ready to shoot some duck, catch some
fish and night hog hunting! Great times!"Michael McMullen http://www.facebook.com/CastawayLodge/reviewsBoots
On The GroundWell here we are again in "late Spring" as the shorts
and flip-flops are ever present and it's a strip tease around here mid-day as we
peel off light layers to get hard at work in above average temperatures. Guests
from Ga. arrived yesterday with the 10mm neoprene waders and I just about had a
heat stroke looking at them, ha! Hit and miss is the "swamp talk" and we went
50/50 on good shoots versus slow shooting on mixed puddlers. Divers still
dominate as mild conditions "day savers" when things slick off and get spooky.
Drakes OnlyWe've taken drakes only to heart and it really
started last season on Redheads and that's made for some serious mounts flying
out the door to area taxidermists. "Choot the white bellies" can be done here on
decent traffic but of course if things look dicey we'll go to cutting
loose.
Fishing SceneWe finished up two days of "casting"
with Cast & Blast guests from near Dallas. We love the rave reviews and
everyone had a great time. Fishing wasn't super hot but everyone managed to
catch some nice Redfish for the effort and what's better than lighting up the
ducks early and then enjoying a nice afternoon on the water with
friends.
Lodge News/Construction - Serious TractionSure,
it's a little dicey blowing up a construction project during the Winter months
but that's just how we roll. It's 4/3 on the dice because 7 come 11 this years
has proven it's the right call. Foundation's are on the fast track with light
rain chances tomorrow and that's about it on the horizon. With the bayou
contouring complete we're bringing in dormant grasses and the timing couldn't be
better and it's going to be stunning. Special thanks to all or our "
get it
on contractors that have a whole lot of want to"!
If you haven't
discovered Castaway Lodge yet, February would be a great month to do so. We've

Thanks! Thanks to all of our guests and extended family and friends
that have made the lodge a Seadrift Landmark. I've got to give a shout out to
the Mayor's office and all the girls at City Hall; Boyd Staloch Inspector; and
service personell that keep those "burn permits" coming. As always, my hat it
continually off to our guides that just never stop and are relentless in pursuit
of the best approach for a great client experience. To Capt. Donnie Heath, great
work all around from Construction Supervision to "nailing" evening appetizers
and awesome grill master/bar tender skills.
