Trout Limits Grace Heavy Waterfowl Straps

Castaway Lodge Seadrift Report

Sponsored by: Mercury Marine; Air Ranger Airboats; Haynie Bay Boats; Baysport Marine Victoria; Castaway Rods; JL Marine; Pure Fishing; and, Bob's Machine Shop.

We opened up the second split of the 2014 Texas Duck Season with a bang. Guests from all over Texas and as far away as AZ joined us including the Alexander group back for their 19th year. This week we're welcoming guests from MD and more from all over Texas and as far away as Dallas. Duck numbers and species diversity continue to improve. Weather has challenged our best intentions at times but, so far the hunting has outperformed expectations.

Ducks

We're seeing solid numbers of Redheads and more Pintails relative to last year. Puddlers including Teal, Gadwal, Wigeon, Mottled Ducks, and the occasional odd ball Golden Eye have been gracing the blocks from shoreblinds. Layout boat hunts have taken mainly divers of late.

Goose Hunting

Sunday morning's hunt had all four species including Snow, Blue, Ross, and Specklebelly's working the full bodies for the Alexander boys. Despite blue bird conditions, the guests managed 47 geese with limits of Redheads in the afternoon. Sunday's guests managed single digits as winds really laid down and the birds stuck to area roosts for the better part of the day. Still some very nice decoying action and close in shooting.

Fishing

Trout action has picked up a bit with guests of the Daryl G. group managing full limits on an afternoon trip after duck hunting in the morning. The guests worked a variety of soft plastics and live bait with live working best at this time.

Holiday Greetings

We'd like to specially thank all of our guests for your continued enjoyment of the lodge and most of all the great people that make up Castaway Lodge. We're also welcoming Summit Electric to the family and want to say thanks and we're looking forward to fishing with your guests in 2015. We hope you and yours are having a very special holiday season. If you haven't got to know us yet, when you get a chance, come see us.
