Castaway Lodge Seadrift Report
By Capt. Kris Kelley
We hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday! On the bay Trout continued to impress with nice catches for cast and blast participants. Despite really mild weather heading to the weekend we managed to keep the guns warm. The very welcomed cool front made for improved action over the big weekend. Trout have been working over shell and shell mud taking live shrimp and imitations under a popping cork. Just keepers would sum up the size range with a few fish pushing toward 17-18".
Jerry S. decided to make another run at the fish with us with his second trip in as many weeks and Friday was just glass ahead of the cool front. I was pretty sure we were hamstrung with no wind and a lot of uncomfortably clear water. I could tell things were well off pace when we stumbled into some fish working the incoming tide hanging over mud/scattered shell. I powere poled down on them and we literally sat in one area casting 360 degrees around the boat and pulled full limits with some catch and release. That was dodging a bullet given the conditions for sure.
If continued mild December weather stays on us we're expecting no slowdown in this pattern which should make for continued success on cast and blast trips. We hope the start of the week is a good one for everybody. Come see us when you get a chance!
