Back Lakes, Bowls, Sloughs & Flats

A brief window in the weather made for memorable fishing late week. As I write, I can see the trees bending from winds gusting into the 30’s ahead of an approaching Low with rain on the way this evening and in the morning.

Trout seem to be holding best over mud/grass and mud/shell with low tides pooling fish in deeper bowls, guts, and sloughs. Redfish are pushing deeper into the back marsh between fronts and then pooling in deeper bowls when “the weather hits”. They are making big moves abandoning the flats on clearing water and big dips in the thermometer. Friday saw strong Redfish action with the Tim T. party from Marble Falls with lots of fish in transitional lakes and runways. Limits along with some nice catch and release made for a great day. Saturday found us working schooled up fish holding in deeper depressions in “bail out” locations near the flats. Temperatures took a nose dive overnight and there was a lot of water movement out of the marsh and a lot of fish movement off the flats. Capt. Steve Boldt and Capt. Doug Russell intercepted some pooling Trout and Redfish wade fishing over mud/grass along with a bonus Flounder with Brown Lures Devil eyes.
