Challenged Through Initial Wind Pop

Castaway Lodge Seadrift Report
By Capt. Kris Kelley

Some big winds have finally hit the bays ending a long period of calm and that's made things a little less predictable of late.  Our guides were working overtime with guests of a large Austin concrete company in with 24 folks over two days.  Capt. James Cunningham said "timing was everything and you had to be in the right place at the right time while eyeballing tide catalysts and even waiting on them if necessary".  That led him to lead off day one of the event with full Trout limits.  Capt. Donnie Heath struggled to find a decent bite but did manage to stick their tournament winning Trout at 24".  Capt. Braden Proctor came off the water looking like he'd seen a ghost, tough sledding on his boat but that young man covered some water and gave it 10 kinds of heck.  Capt. Terry Spoonemore chiseled all over for half limits of Trout.  Capt. Chris Cady reported a slow bite airboat redfishing the back country and came in short of limits as well.  Into Sunday and we found the winds even more elevated and that took the catching down another notch.

We did manage a 5 Star Review from the VP of the Company and they're already discussing plans to rebook the trip for next year.  Kerry said ""First class in everything. Great people. Amazing food. Great fishing. " That means everything to all the folks that have made Castaway Lodge a top destination on the Texas Coast.

Airboat Redfishing Trips

Capt. Chris Cady made the best of it in some torn up water to come back short of limits but managed some solid fish for the effort. Success will improve moving forward as heavier wind patterns through August will become the norm and the fish will be "set up for it".
