Duck Scene

Chilling with the cool down has prompted us to focus on heating up the hand warmers with some trigger pulling. Even as the last big push of unseasonable South winds wailed over Seadrift (to 40 knots at one point), our Team was reporting strong shooting ahead of the front. Since then, it's been a barrage of fresh birds and toe nail dragging spectacles in the blocks.

It looks like Mother Nature may finally be with us and not against us, so here we go. Gadwall, Pintail, Redheads and a light mix of Teal and other species have been dominating the straps. Water levels have pulled back enough to give us some breathing and comfort room but remain higher than we'd like. Teal won't show until we get really low but we've been pulling a few Green and Blue Wings with Carl Arntz taking a nice plummed drake. Capt. Chris Cady brough another crossed up bird in a couple of days ago and this time is was a Gadwall/Pintail Hen cross. We've had lots of crossed up birds this year.

Goose/Crane

We're finally getting some birds in the County but now we've got flooded fields to contend with and Cranes are hangning in plowed ground which is presently unpenetrable. If Winter keeps digging in and the migration finally gets centered on the coast, I'm expecting some fresh birds will be hitting the conservation season meat grinder at all the wrong time for their health. Stay tuned.
