CASTAWAY LODGE REPORT
FISHING REPORT
The weather this week has resulted in fishing ranging from a “hammerfest” to “chip & chisel on the large side”. It’s May alright and it’s not exactly the month that defines “weather stability”. Regardless, fishing has been excellent as we move into the end of the month. Big tides resulted in a huge tide push bringing surf Trout all the way into San Antonio Bay along with an unusual number of Sharks. “I like it”. I could live without the Sharks but this tide push resembles that of a tide surge associated with a Tropical Depression and that’s always good for fishing.
Catches of late have been on the heavy side with Trout ranging from 18 to 24” along with a smattering of Redfish in the middle to upper slot. We had a pretty significant tide fall out over the weekend and I’m sure the North wind that’s howling out there right now as I write isn’t going to do much for Spring like water levels. Hopefully, the tide will come back up next week.
We know “local” Trout and when you are seeing an unusual number of fish over 20” with broad shoulders and “dimple backs” you know these fish are coming from the Gulf. It’s the Spring “transfusion” essential to productive fishing. With the freshwater inflows of last summer, you can pretty much bet that it’s going to be a great year as it sets the stage for a healthy Bay system. Right now, big winds are slowing things a bit for boat fishermen and that’s the ups and down’s of May.

Special thanks to our guests over the past week including Chevron USA; Austin Ditch Witch; UniCare/Wellpoint; TransenDental Austin; James W. and family.
Here’s what our clients are saying:
Kris,
Thanks for hooking my mom up for Mother's Day. Capt. James was an absolute delight with my mom. When we first arrived I told him I was not concerned with me or my father as long as my mom caught trout and had a blast.
I would be more than willing to recommend any one I know to treat themselves to great fun and good fishing with your Lodge. When we returned to the dock most every one else was surprised at the fish we had as the wind was stiff and the fishing was tuff. We were still able to boat some nice fish and have a great time.
I am forwarding this to TSF magazine as I read them every month and gain introspect into our community through it.
My hope is to make this an annual trip and I'm looking forward to next Mother's Day with anticipation instead of anxiety over what to get her.
Many thanks,
James W.

We caught fish in some of the most miserable conditions you can imagine...Capt. Kris and his guides heated-up the morning with limits of solid red fish. He's a great guy. He went above and beyond the call of duty, and made sure our group had a memorable experience. Give him a call, you'll never forget it.

The fall season is over, the spring season is still at least a month away, there's no bait in the bay, it's cold runn'n in 35 degree temperatures looking for fish, the wind was up, nice water is hard to find. The list of excuses is long however, Kris Kelley and his crew don't need to use them, If they found fish on this trip it is doubtful that they EVER use excuses.
