23/24 Fall Preview - Back to Drought Conditions

Previewing the Upcoming 2023-2024 Texas Hunting Season - Waterfowl, Gator, Teal, and Dove

Hey there, fellow outdoors enthusiasts!

We don't want to be in a drought but like most things, we don't get much of a say in the matter. Mother Nature is fickle like that! We've been to this picture show before and we know what lies ahead if this drought continues!

The fishing season has been quite the ride so far, with folks traveling from all corners to savor the waters alongside our top-notch coastal guides. As we gear up for the upcoming season, let me give you a glimpse of the excitement in store. Come September, we're diving into combo trips for Dove and Teal, and mark your calendars for the Big Duck Season revving up this November. Now, here's the twist that Mother Nature's throwing our way - the Texas drought. It's about to bring a whole new flavor to Dove and Waterfowl hunting!

Now, let's talk about Dove hunting along the coast. We've had our share of wet cycles dampening our fun, but this time around, the drought's changing the game. The last stretch of dry times like this was from May 2009 to March 2013, and trust me, it can turn Dove hunting into an unforgettable experience. We'll be tracking down local White-Wing, Mourning, and Eurasian Dove species, and boy, are we in for a treat if the dry weather continues.

Now, for you waterfowl hunters, the drought is causing quite the shake-up for the Central Flyway. Our usual hangouts, like those flooded flats and reservoirs, are facing some water woes due to restrictions, costs, and fuel crunches. And those reservoirs? Well, they're looking more like giant mud puddles more than anything else. It's like we're reliving the challenges of 2009 to 2013. But guess what, my fellow waterfowlers? This situation might just be a blessing in disguise, especially for those of us who know these bays and back lakes like the back of our hand.

And here's the kicker: we might see a different kind of dance this time around, depending on how the flyway's holding up. The barrier island, usually the haunt of divers like Wigeon, Gadwall, Pintail, and Teal, is in for a makeover. Without the usual alternatives, the Central Flyway ducks will be making a beeline for those coastal freshwater ponds and springs only found on Matagorda Island. Get ready to witness nature's own choreography, a daily journey of movement born out of necessity. Our goal will be to zero in on timing and be ready and waiting.

As we fine-tune our schedule, we're gearing up to welcome folks from all across the nation this season.

Alligator Season

We're almost maxed out for the Alligator Season, but a few slots remain. If you've got a hankering for this unique adventure, now's the time to lock in those plans.

Bay Fishing

Our fishing season has been one for the books, and we're eagerly awaiting cooler weather for some fantastic angling that'll keep us going strong right into December.

There's a wealth of memories just waiting to be made, and we can't wait to have you join us. So pack your bags and come on down!

Tight lines and happy hunting,
